NHER – the way ahead for home energy professionals

The NHER scheme offers training, software and accreditation to evaluate the energy efficiency of buildings.

In 1988 the National Energy Foundation (NEF) was established to promote energy conservation and provide help to improve energy efficiency in residential buildings. Working in partnership with the Energy Advisory Service (EAS), the National Home Energy Rating (NHER) scheme was developed. The NHER is the UK’s first and largest energy rating system.

In 1994 National Energy Services (NES) Ltd was formed to administer the success of the NHER, and to undertake research, consultancy and project management.

Our services range from providing software and training to meet Part L of the Building Regulations, to providing software to assess large housing stocks, and producing Energy Performance Certificates, on both commercial and domestic buildings.

Our NHER sister company is SAVA (Surveyors and Valuers Accreditation).

Their assessment centre was the first independent centre for Home Inspectors and is authorised to assess candidates applying for the ABBE (Awarding Body for the Built Environment) Diploma in Home Inspection.

In June 2007 the SAVA Business Exchange (SAVA BX) was created – they are the prime supplier of quality Home Condition Reports (HCRs) and Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

SAVA BX has one of the largest networks of Home Inspectors (HIs) and Energy Assessors in England and Wales.

Work is allocated to members through a workflow management system developed by NES Ltd.

SAVA BX offers additional comprehensive administration and business support services.

Overall, NHER and SAVA are dedicated to providing excellent technical and business support for individuals or organisations which are responsible for the energy efficiency and condition of their buildings.

By working with CLG, NES Ltd has provided the software, training and accreditation to help the Government plans to combat climate change through energy efficiency.
